How Active Backup for Power BI works

The platform connects to your Power BI and Microsoft Fabric environment, discovers assets in scope, creates backups on item change, and stores restore points independently to support recovery and auditability.

1) Define scope and policy

Select the workspaces and assets to protect.

Define retention periods and backup frequency based on operational risk and compliance needs.

2) Run automated backups

Backups run continuously so coverage does not depend on manual exports.

In practice, when an item changes we aim to capture it quickly and can create restore points as frequently as ~15 minutes depending on configuration and Microsoft 365 audit (best effort).

Each run creates a restore point that can be referenced later.

3) Restore with control

Restore to the original workspace or to a separate recovery location for validation.

Use recovery workflows to reduce disruption for business users and maintain governance controls.
